NB70s: Rick Barry (1975-78)
In the 1975 NBA draft, the Warriors selected point guard Gus Williams in the first round. Barry was not required to contribute as much during the 1975-76 season, and his scoring average dipped to 21.0 points per game as a result. Barry's relationship with his teammates continued to deteriorate, to the point where during the final game of the 1976 Western Conference Finals, when Suns rookie Ricky Sobers assaulted Barry away from the ball in the first quarter, none of his teammates came to his aid (in response, Barry took very few shots for the rest of the game, leading to speculation that Barry "quit on the team").
In the 1976-77 season, the Warriors won 46 games with Barry, Phil Smith, and Williams sharing the majority of the scoring and ball-handling responsibilities but were eliminated in the second round by the Los Angeles Lakers. Reportedly, Barry and Williams clashed over the ball-handling role, and Williams was subsequently traded after the season to the Seattle SuperSonics.
Barry averaged 23.1 points per game in his farewell season (1977-78) with the Warriors.

Can't really say anyone is a better basketball player than Bird. He was exceptional in every facet, was as clutch as anyone, was a step(or two) ahead with his IQ, and had the beast gene to compete every play, every day..

Russell gets all the credit having 11 rings including a couple with Bob Cousy in his prime. Sam Jones & Havlicek along with a solid supporting cast and a great coach are just as important and don’t receive the credit they deserve.

Probably the most forgotten great Celtics player. Granted, his stint with the Celtics was very brief. But he contributed to several championships and was even an all-star for a couple of seasons. He is sadly lost in Celtics lore.

I know coming out of college he was more or less expected to be outstanding, not simply good. I know his ceiling was viewed as higher than Frazier and Monroe. Not sure why it didn't materialize. And not taking anything away from Clyde or Earl. But Walker had tremendous natural offensive talent.

AHH man I started learning basketball when AL won his NCAA chips and this was one of my favorite series against him as a rookie. Then for him to join them mentoring the Jays with JT having the same type of year he had against LJ cavs wow. Therefore, yes it's only fitting that he came to Boston and return to wearing #42 to win at this stage! #NBA at its core best producing great men and team players!

The ABA saved the NBA by giving it life. The entire NBA game changed when the ABA merged with NBA. The NBA was boring. The ABA energized the NBA with an infusion of young players like Dr.J, George Gervin, Dan Issel, David Thompson, Artis Gilmore, Bobby Jones and others.

That sixth foul on Cowens was nonsense that seems to have cost the Celtics the game. Cowens probably wouldn't have let Kareem go right on him to the baseline from that far away. Though Cowens might have denied the entry pass in the first place.
